Why We Should All Be Reating!

Ever heard the grammatical term portmanteau? No? Think harder, think Brangelina or bromance. Got it?

A portmanteau is a word formed by combining two different terms to create a new entity, and you’ve probably noticed them becoming more popular in modern-day English.

Consider the activity of reating; yep, the fantastic combination of reading and eating, two things very close to my heart that conjure up images of fun-filled days spent with friends, discussing a book, and enjoying some amazingly wholesome food and good company.

Here’s why we should all do more reating

Reading can be such a solitary activity. Sometimes I crave and need “me time” away from the chaos of everyday life, but I am also a social creature. And, I love food–whether it be considered purely fuel or something to be lovingly savoured, it’s compulsory for our survival. So why not combine the two and create a reating experience?

When reading an amazing book, or even a book that is hard to get invested in, I seek to share my experience and opinions with others, and I’m keen to hear their views and how their interpretation and opinions differ from my own. Yes, I could strike up a conversation with a stranger on the subway who is reading the same book, but they’d no doubt think me weird and wouldn’t want to engage in meaningful conversation. So why not have the discussion with a friendly bunch of folks over some food?

Reating is at the heart of BooknBrunch. Eating a meal together is one of the most social things that human beings can do. Add to that a focus for some stimulating discussion and engaging conversation and you take it up a notch to create an invigorating and pleasurable experience.

See if there’s a BooknBrunch event coming up near you here, and get reating!
