Mother’s Day – A Day to Celebrate Strong Female Figures in Your Life

Every year in May, we celebrate our moms on Mother’s Day. Whether she’s upstairs or thousands of miles away, reading provides a wonderful way to connect over words. Books give you an opportunity to share your favorite characters, new worlds, or a happily ever after.

I’ve listed recommendations for all kinds of moms, whether they’re into fiction, memoirs, or classics. These books are great picks to read together and are sure to make you feel closer and more connected.

Explore these books for mom and pick up two copies — one for her and one for you.

The Wedding Veil by Kristy Woodson Harvey: Four women. One family heirloom. A secret connection that will change their lives — and history as they know it at the luxurious Biltmore Estate.

The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah: A hauntingly rich World War II novel about two sisters, their courage, brutality, love, and survival.

Becoming by Michelle Obama: An intimate, powerful, and inspiring memoir by the former First Lady of the United States.

The Help by Kathryn Scott: The #1 New York Times best-selling novel and basis for the Academy Award-winning film shares a timeless story about two different women who join together to write a tell-all book about work as Black maids in the South.

Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen: This book is a popular read and a cornerstone of Jane Austen’s reputation as one of the greatest female novelists of all time.

Loved what you read, don’t forget to pick up two copies of one of the books above to read with your mom on Mother’s Day!

Shannon K. Loar is a small town girl with a passion for reading.  Books have played a significant role in her life since her youth where she’d spend hours in the local library where her grandma served as the librarian. In her free time, you can find Shannon reading or listening to a book, practicing yoga or binging a streaming show.  Her most precious time is spent with her children ages 20, 18 and 15.  Her new favorite fashion trend, athletic leisure.

Favourite book: The Great Gatsby
