Duck & Waffle – London, UK

Before I get into the details, I have to say that this is currently my favourite brunch spot in London; and it’s open 24/7. It doesn’t get better than that!

Atmosphere

Located in the City on the 40th floor of Heron Tower, one of London’s tallest buildings, the Duck & Waffle delivers a unique dining experience, accompanied by stunning views of the city. The food delivers traditional British cuisine with a twist, making use of local, rustic, seasonal and sustainable ingredients. The whole package is simply delightful.

After the scenic 40-second elevator ride (not for the faint-hearted) you walk straight into the vibrant cocktail bar to enjoy an aperitif, or simply wait to be escorted to your table. The dining area is large and eclectic, combining contemporary steel and glass with more traditional marble, wood, and ceramic tiles. The kitchen is open-concept and if you’re lucky enough to be seated nearby, you are treated to a parade of amazing dishes as they make their way to the tables. It’s like people watching for foodies!

Presentation, Quality, and Taste

The brunch menu is extensive and diverse, ranging from small snacks, eggs, meats, and of course waffles (yes, there is even a duck waffle option), and they offer both gluten-free bread and waffles (which I can strongly recommend). Our table of four had a hard time deciding, ultimately opting for the Duck & Waffle, duck egg en cocotte, Colombian eggs, and ox cheek Benedict, all of which were cleanly presented and delivered in portion sizes that satisfied without overwhelming (a key factor in a good brunch). The food could not be faulted; it was brilliant. The Bloody Mary was not as sharp as it could have been and needed to be topped up with Worcestershire sauce, but that is a minor detail I can happily forgive. Even though comfortably full by meal’s end, we agreed that we should try the sweet waffles and ordered a gluten-free banana brûlée. We demolished it in seconds!

I’m smiling as I write this review and can’t wait to go back. What more can I say?

The Bottom Line: 5/5 Brookie Stars

Duck & Waffle is a total winner for me. A perfect brunch experience from start to finish from the selection of dishes and quality of food through to the design and decor and amazing views. It’s a winner every time.
