Jackson + Rye – Richmond, UK

Located on the Thames with a grand view of the water and the passing rowboats and ferries,  Jackson + Rye is a relaxing place to spend a Sunday morning. Accessible via the towpath (my route) or a short walk from Richmond, it’s a mid-size venue and whilst we were able to get a walk-in at 10 a.m., they did need the table back for noon when the restaurant fills up with locals and tourists alike.

Atmosphere

It’s tastefully decorated with classic table settings, a great American-style bar, and has the feel of a boutique hotel restaurant. They also have an extensive drink list and a fantastic haul of bourbon, from which I believe they take their name.

Their website states they serve “good home cooked American-style food all day long, with a great bar and relaxed environment” and I would agree 100%. They have a long and diverse weekend brunch menu (without being overwhelming), ranging from traditional bakery and pastry items such as buttermilk pancakes and egg dishes including a healthy egg white omelette with spinach and goat cheese, through to full main courses and their signature ribs and pancakes.

Presentation, Quality, and Taste

I chose the salt beef hash: slices of salt beef served over home-style potatoes and kale, topped with two poached eggs and a light hollandaise sauce. The food was delicious and the portion size was ideal for brunch. My dining partners (sister Paula and my brother-in-law Ed) opted for the avocado florentine and huevos rancheros, both of which were given the thumbs up.

Overall, a great success and I will try their other locations, even if only to have the opportunity to check out more of their tantalizing dishes.

The Bottom Line: 5/5 Brookie Stars

Jackson & Rye (Richmond) is everything you could want from a brunch spot from its extensive menu, tasty food and great service through to its relaxed atmosphere and great location.
